Pieces of Love
(Gratitude to a Teacher)
There are special people in the world more wonderful than words:
People who are loved by the tiniest and most impressionable,
Who spend countless hours filling tiny lives
with dreams, assurances, joy, wisdom and comfort.
Countless hours giving pieces of love.
They hold small faces in loving hands and wipe away tears;
Carry little people on backs and bandage scraped knees;
Offer warm laps and arms that engulf and chase away hurts.
Lift up tinies for a ride on a hip or just because.
Pieces of love.
These priceless people give hope and confidence.
They read to little ears and whisper sadnesses away;
Watch the millionth cartwheel or ninja move with surprise and delight;
Correct the incorrect with gentleness and smiles.
Pieces of love.
People who love the unloved and play silly games;
Hold petite hands and rub little backs and create big smiles;
Laugh at senseless jokes heard for the 10th time that day;
Sing with tiny voices who are eager to be heard;
Pieces of love.
And they may never realize just how many pieces
those tiny ones take of these special people with them.
And lives will never be the same, even if only in a small, quiet, lovely way.
These treasured gifts are carried in tiny hearts that grow into big hearts, forever.
Pieces of faith,
Pieces of joy,
Pieces of love.
