Commissions

Just finished my last commission. This is a painting of my good friends' children. I'm happy with it! Needless to say, they don't exactly look like the painting except for the hair and eyes. I'm not good with realism. But, I think I'll do the same of my own kids. Who knows when.....sigh. I don't think I ever do any paintings for myself these days and when I do, I end up giving them to family. But, that's what it's all about, I think.
I'm always told that I underprice my work and I've even been told that underpricing cheapens the work. I have to say that makes me a little miffed. People should be able to afford art, right? I'm not trying to get rich doing this. I LOVE it. And I love being able to give a big piece of work to someone who maybe can't afford to pay $500 but can maybe pay $200. I enjoy it. Everyone should have at least one original peice of art on thier wall.

Don't get me wrong.....I don't see anything wrong with paying thousands of dollars for art, nothing at all, and there are so many works of art that are worth that price. That's just not my goal. I'm not really trying to make a big name for myself (but there's nothing wrong with that either!).....I'm just trying to spend my time painting.

Anyhooo......luvies to all. Hope you're all having a great week!

I completely agree with you. I have pieces of art in my home that I paid alot for and some no so much. I enjoy them the same. (really I like the less expensive the most). Keep doing what you love. I sure enjoy seeing it.

It sounds like you're doing great--congrats on finishing another commission! And I agree--everyone should have an original work of art on their wall :)

It is so true that *everyone* should be able to enjoy work.

I had a girlfriend who painted the most awesome piece of work and I'm telling you, for some reason, that piece inspired me SO very much.

When I mentioned how much I liked it and she GAVE it to me. At first I was horrified, because I knew it would cost around $300 or so.

She'll never know how much that meant. I was willing to pay, and would have done even a token, but things were so tight, it was all we could do to feed and clothe our fam.

So always know that you sharing your work, making it affordable, is the BIGGEST gift ever.

Kristen, thank you for continuing to create work after work in inspires so many.

This is a long message, just to say: You rock! ha!

Well, now, your post and comments made MY day. You're welcome--I am so glad my words had an impact. It seems like that happens in life sometimes. A word, a look, a smile: someone sends along some encouragement just at the time you need it most! Do we know the name of your gallery in town? Is there a link to it? Happy day to you! Tricia
