I'm doing this awesome study my friend is leading and talked me into. It's a book called, CAPTIVATING, by Staci Eldridge. It's fantastically inspiring but also opens doors I thought I closed, locked and threw away the key to a long time ago. One of the many things it talks about is what the media (or maybe it's just my sister) calls, "The Princess Culture". The scoff is that we are making our children obsessed with being princesses and being beautiful and such. That we are damaging our little girls in the process. Here's Staci's take......We want to be a princess because God put it into our souls that we ARE princesses.....HIS princesses....so why wouldn't we be fascinated with beauty? We want to be 'lovely' because we were meant to be all along. And I'm not talking about media, worldly, physical beauty. There is an indescrible beauty to any woman, I don't care what she looks like, it doesn't matter. Unfortunately, many of us have had our beauty squooshed by people who simply can't or won't see what's really there. But we are drawn to beauty......nature, music, art, kindness, gentleness, humility.....these are all beautiful things, a 'soulish' beauty, as Staci calls it. I say....Rock on Staci!
So.....are we princesses? Yea, Baby! Should we hide it or be ashamed? No way. Should we forego beauty for practicality? Heck no!
So go ahead and wear your tiara and tutu today....all day. The creator of the entire universe calls you his princess. Who are we to argue that?
"Arise my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me." Song of Solomon 2:10.
it's a great book! lots of thinking and re-ordering thoughts.
