Commissions

Just finished my last commission. This is a painting of my good friends' children. I'm happy with it! Needless to say, they don't exactly look like the painting except for the hair and eyes. I'm not good with realism. But, I think I'll do the same of my own kids. Who knows when.....sigh. I don't think I ever do any paintings for myself these days and when I do, I end up giving them to family. But, that's what it's all about, I think.
I'm always told that I underprice my work and I've even been told that underpricing cheapens the work. I have to say that makes me a little miffed. People should be able to afford art, right? I'm not trying to get rich doing this. I LOVE it. And I love being able to give a big piece of work to someone who maybe can't afford to pay $500 but can maybe pay $200. I enjoy it. Everyone should have at least one original peice of art on thier wall.

Don't get me wrong.....I don't see anything wrong with paying thousands of dollars for art, nothing at all, and there are so many works of art that are worth that price. That's just not my goal. I'm not really trying to make a big name for myself (but there's nothing wrong with that either!).....I'm just trying to spend my time painting.

Anyhooo......luvies to all. Hope you're all having a great week!

I promise I have not been lazy! I actually spent a little over a week painting the biggest painting of my life....8 feet by 20 feet.....for a background for my church. It was fun and painful, at least on my poor back. But, it's over and now I can concentrate on my own stuff again. I'm in the process of a commission from a long, lost friend of mine of her children, which I am enjoying immensely. But, in between these 2, I did manage to squeeze out 2 little birdies on wood that I'll be putting in my shop at some point in the next few days. I must say, summer is proving to be pretty exhausting between trying to be constructive and also spend good quality time with my sweet girls.

At any rate, we really are having a wonderful summer and I hope you are, too! I'm adding a pix of my seriously white, Irish, spf 60 covered family running down the beach. I thought it was such a kodak moment!

I just had to add this in......look at the size of this blackberry we got at a market today. Don't you just love summer?
