Another quickie!

Hey all! I spent the night gearing up for my etsy updates on Friday and also my Friday giveaway. Thanks to everyone who entered and also for all your encouragement and awesomely sweet words! And a big 'shout out' to all you brave souls who sent pix of your messy studios. This has been a lot of fun!

Here's a sneak peak at what I'm working on right now. It's the garden of Eden, though I'm not sure what I'll name it. Lot's more work to do. It needs a background and I still have to paint and distress the frame. I thought I would have it done tonight but it was a wee bit bigger of a job than I thought! Plus a great friend of mine who I haven't talked with in nearly a year called and we chatted until my ear felt like it was burning off....literally. My phone gets super hot!

Figured Out!!

Well, I think I figured out where my serious creative block was coming from. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me...(Tammy and Adri, listening to some downhome Hillybilly music from my old Kentucky home did prove to be a bit inspiring!). But it wasn't until just a few days ago that I really did figure it out. Coco from Cocospotz gave me the beautiful comment that my characters remind her of a fairy tale. And that's exactly what I've wanted all along! Modern fairy tales that make not just others but myself think of simplicity and pure, unblemished joy. I smiled and then thought about what to do next. I wanted to do a sweet girl chasing butterflies with lots of glitter and wax and ribbon and all the wonderful things my girls like to play with when they hang with me in my studio. I wanted to include everything they are drawn to and inspired by and just can't help touching and savoring and pretending with. BUT....I then thought to myself....oh, that will never sale.
AHHHHHHH!!! That's it! I'm so concerned about doing paintings that sale that I've lost the fun reason I started doing this in the first place. Oh, shame on me. That's why I can't think of anything 'good' to paint. I'm pushing away what I want to do and trying to make money on it. Well, as my 2 year old would say....Silly Mommy.

So! I painted my idea. And I'm finally flooded with more fun ideas. They may sit in my studio for the next year after I paint them.....but I'm doing it!!

Here's a preview.....

She's painted on an old cabinet door that I distressed. I used wax, glitter, irredescent flakes, ribbon, collage paper, acrylics, rhinestone.....anything I could glue down!!

I added this super lovely glass handle to the old door. I think it gives the whole piece such charm.

And to end my ramblings and babblings.....A neat quote I read today.

Feels Like Christmas!

Just a quick post to share my wonderful treat that came in the mail today. I was so excited to receive Penelope, this sweet kitty doll from the fabulous Suz at 'Ah...Surprise, Delight, Joy'. Opening the box was like Christmas! I had to fight my kids off and dare them to touch her again! I'm always missing my little 'lullettes' from Jenn and her Noodle and Lou....where did I find them today? Lilly's toy box. If you have never visited these 2 artists, you really must. They are totally fabulous!

Back and Burnin'!

Now...what the title of this blog means is not that I've been burning the late night lamp working my tooshie off painting and such. No, no....I've been to the beach where I recieved the worst, most God awful sunburn of my entire life. As we speak, my chest is bubbling up and itching like crazy. Did I have sunblock on, you ask? No, of course not. My Indian skin doesn't burn. NEVER burns (which in no way should exclude me from needing sunblock. It's just my pride, really....and bragging rights since my Irish hubby burns like a lobster and I laugh at him always. Ha, ha....jokes on me). So here I sit, lubed up in aloe and lotion, doing my blog. Ouchy mama.

By the way....this has got to be the worst picture of me ever taken but I wanted you all to feel my pain.

On a more fun note, I've included pix of my sweet 2 year old enjoying our impromtu tea party. She has her own special china she drinks from....with a spoon. And also....I finished my second little clay sculpture which I am proud to share. She's rough, she's small, she's imperfect, she's wearing way too much lipstick.....just like me! So, how could she not be loveable? I think I'll call her Krissy.

Isn't she the cutest? Her little nose is all scratched up from a fall.
